I used to ride my horse, everyday, but I had to sell her and now, 12 years later, I am reluctant to get on a horse because I am afraid of falling and not being able to run or pump or zumba… also, that cartwheel, I am afraid of falling. As a kid you think you are bulletproof, I am 44, I know better now. And the jumping rope, I still do it, without the rope… yep you guessed it, I am afraid to fall

Mitch K

Things I could do as a kid but can’t do now. Jumping over a fence using only one hand for support. Put my feet next to my ears. Jump down a flight of stairs. Climb a tree. Jump off a swing when it is at it’s apex. Climb a 25′ rope vertically using only my hands.

Susan

About 8 years ago I, for some unknown reason, did a cartwheel and thought I was going to DIE! LOL, now at 54 and 50lbs light (more to go) I want to do that cartwheel and feel confident doing it. My arms are not as strong as the used to be. Want that back also.
Thanks, Dr K you have helped me so much so far.

Dr. K,
For me, it hasn’t been specific movements I’ve lost as I’ve grown, but endurance. As a swimmer in high school, I was able to go through 3-4 hour practices and still do homework afterward. Today 8 years after graduating, I’d be struggling half way through. Using DEFL and Tacfit has improved my endurance, but it’s still not where I want it to be.

I used to be able to do a 1 1/2 forward dive. Also, multiple exercises utilizing the trampoline.

Scott

It’s funny, but just last week I was thinking about how I hadn’t done something as simple as a somersault in decades. I got down on the floor, and after a couple of tries, I was able to do it, but it sure was a weird sensation. When I was young, I had no problem doing stuff like that – now, it’s not so easy…

jessica

I used to be able to do a back hand-spring and back flip. I can still do it on the trampoline, but would love to be able to do it on the ground again.

ps. Thanks for slowing down your speech. You have so much great information and I love it, but it is overwhelming when you talk so fast!

Reading about cartwheels and things is really scary…I couldn’t even do those when I was a kid !! I’m 52 now and still in very good shape but I really wish I didn’t relate quite so readily to the ‘age’ jokes like the one about looking for something else to do while your down on your knees doing something else !! I find myself doing it and never thought I would. I’d just like my body to move more readily in every direction with more ease and I believe I can achieve it with your plans. Thank you so much for the help so far.

I used to take the stairs 2 at a time without a 2nd thought, now there are some days I’m just happy to walk them the normal way. I used to be able to jump rope for an hour at a time, now most of the time I’m afraid to do any kind of jumping for fear that my knee will go out.

Hmmmmm… cartwheels (grrrrr!!!!!) couldn’t do them as a kid and still can’t do them now. What’s the secret behind doing those **** things ?

Shark

3 activities that challenge me way more than they used to

getting up from being seated on the floor
jumping up onto a box or a bench
getting up from kneeling on the floor especially with the left leg

Gaelyn

I used to be a world class highland dancer — you know, the sword dance, leaps in the air, etc., well now, 30 thirty years later, I can still dance a bit, but not at the quality or the more difficult basic technique I used to be able to perform with ease — I would love to be able to do split high cuts and huge leaps again!

Hi Dr. K,

I remember about 10 years ago I used to be able to hike and mountain bike ride without being so exhausted. I also used to be able to do some Karate moves and not feel my energy spent. All of these are just a matter of conditioning my body to react and move again where it used to. I thought I was in pretty good shape, until the truth hit me straight on. I’m 51 years old now and I don’t really think or feel it otherwise. It’s time to do those things again! I read your posts, and have utilized your Fat Loss program. I just need to be motivated more to actually achieve those dormant activities I spoke about. I feel your sincerity and love your program. Thank you Dr. K.!

INTERNATIONAL MISSION BRIEFING: Sophisticated Fat Loss Mastery ……

I found your entry interesting do I’ve added a Trackback to it on my weblog :)

I’m not sure I could do cross the monkey bars where you hang from your arms and “walk” across. If I can, I bet it would be a struggle, where as a kid we lived on those bars.

This system looks really cool. It looks like it’s going to be really difficult.

I’m now 50 and trying to maintain the healthiest lifestyle for myself daily. A few years ago I was surprized that I couldn’t sit up on the floor, much less get up after that try. I still have strength, but my joints hurt within the movements. I can’t jump up more than a couple times in a row. In yoga we have a few exercises which require you to roll over front to back or just lay on one hip — it’s actually painful! My body is so limp and tender, I can hardly support my own weight which isn’t too bad. I’m trying to lose 20 more pounds and it’s very hard. I already lead a very active and stressful life and the cortisol hormone really plays against my best efforts. But, I’m alive and so I will continue to work at working out! Thanks for all the education!

always wanted to do a back flip or front flip, not sure if its athleticism or lack of cohonas thats keeping me from trying.

Ray

I used to be able to play hours of basketball, up to 10 games in a night. I remember trying to dunk, something I used to be able to do from age 18 to about 26. I remember trying to dunk again one time in my early 30s and pulled my shoulder and never tried again. I’m not sure I could grab the rim at this point (I’m 46 now), but that would be something I would like to get to again.

Cristiane

Ah, cartwheels, used to love doing them as a kid, and also splits, I was quite good at them too. I’m still quite flexible but not that much anymore, would love to be able to do them again.
