Since you visit here on a regular basis, you’re no stranger to the idea that balancing your body and improving your system’s neuromuscular sophistication is going to lead to faster fat loss.  Essentially, you’re enhancing every repetition of every exercise that you do, thereby multiplying the effectiveness of each workout exponentially.

To make a long story short, it’s like taking the parking brake off… You can drive a lot faster.

But that’s why you come here, to begin with…

If your body is protecting you from muscular imbalance you won’t be able to make the rapid progress you’d like. And if you don’t constantly expose yourself to progressively more sophisticated and challenging movements, your gains will similarly grind to a halt.  This is where skill comes in.

Most people simply are not skilled enough with their exercise programs to reap the benefits they deserve for all the hard work they’re putting in.

That’s why this video series is so cool. The combined prowess of Dr K and Adam Steer have resulted in a powerful set of videos that introduces the perfect technique for one fundamental bodyweight exercise before progressing on to a more complex variation on the same theme.  If you think about it, this exact principle could change the face of your entire workout program.  Imagine applying what we’ve done here to every exercise you ever perform in the gym.

We are talking about a synergy of both:

Perfect Technique + Skill Progression —–> Faster Results.

It’s a simple equation, really…

We’ve published each of the four videos individually, but the results have been so cool that we wanted to assemble everything for you in one place. So without further ado, let’s get started with Dr K and the Perfect Push Up…

Now that you have everything you need to perform the push up with perfect form, let’s look at where you can take it from there. Take a look at Adam’s favorite upper body pressing variation, the Screwing Press.

For a cool twist on your workout:

  • Do the Perfect Push Up variation of your choice until 1 or 2 reps before failure.
  • Shake your arms out and then do the same with your Screwing Press.
  • Make sure you feel like you still have one or two reps in you when you stop. Let us know your impressions in the comments. (It’s a cool feeling…)

Of course, we’re not done yet. Let’s take a look at one of the lower body staples. Dr K presents the Perfect Lunge Technique.

And once you’ve nailed your lunge and can perform at least 10 rear lunges per leg with perfect form, you can take a crack at the Airborne Squat as presented here by Adam…

If you’re lunges are feeling strong, and you’re hitting all the important points as laid out by Dr K, give the Airborne Squat a try. Let us know in the comments which version you’re using. Do you need the support of the rope? Or do you already have leg strength to drool over?

We’re looking forward to your comments. If you liked this series, let us know. We plan to collaborate more in the future when we see there’s enough interest.

And keep your eyes peeled tomorrow. We’ve cooked up something extra special for you. But we’re not ready to let the cat out of the bag just yet.

We’re so glad you’re enjoying yourselves :-)

Hello dear Kareem,

I have tried every thing on the page but cannot view your video so have not been able to access the perfect pushup. Apparently I am not the only one.
I have to tell you that I can only do a kneeling pushup – that may make a perfect pushup impossible? (you may recall that I am 87 years old

One other thing – wheno hit a video it goes then stops continuously while I sit and wait.
Please forgive me but I must tell you this:
Your speech is so fast that I cannot follow what you are saying, which is very frustrating. There must be many people with a hearing impairment that makes fast speech impossible to follow but – everybody I hear speaking does this today.
So I have not wanted the stress of listening to the videos.

Since I broke my wrist my balance has not always been good and that does not help.

To finish, I do not want to lose any more weight (have gone from 63kg to about 55 kg) but do want to strengthen my arm and leg muscles.

Rex

Great explanation of pushup and lunge. Will be using info in my yoga classes for further explanation of correct form of some poses and what should be happening in those poses.
Thank You. Rex M.

Im going to try this out. I love getting faster results and it looks like itll work. I cant wait for you to bring out more things like this thatll accelerate fat loss.

Hey Dr K (or Hi Dr K) used in the UK. I am using as much of your exercises you send to me

Melchior Sarreal

Please continue this into the full range of bodyweight exercises. I agree that doing the basics is so all important. I’ve got to an age to understand that correct form is essential. I love to exercise and exercise is for life but in growing up (I’ve just turned 65) there wasn’t the knowledge about that is available now. I find my self replaying your videos and at odd times during the day doing the exercises (greasing the groove) so that the basics are ingrained. I look forward to you continuing this so very important direction as a team. Keep it up.

Regards

Damien

i like to race/ride mx bikes cycle of road down hill etc i really need balance and to be able to make good decisions when tired so this program does really what i need it to do i am hoping to see more improvements on my bike so the things i learn here are to me very important i dont have time to mess about so the way you go through the exercises and the lack of time wasting is fantastic.thanks so much i was bed ridden for so much of my racing career spanning 25yrs and since exercising in a different way i have (touch wood)had no problems for quite a while so you will never know how grateful i am thanks for giving me my life back….wish i had your advice 25yrs ago

Terese

Love the videos and the explanations. A firm foundation is key to advanced exercises. I teach ice skating and am always working on the basics with my students before progressing to more advanced skills. I am still rebuilding my body from an accident/surgery that left me with muscular imbalances/compensations that physical therapy failed to correct. Keep up the great work & keep the videos coming!

Teresa

Good Morning Dr K,

I really enjoy your videos and exercises. I am a nurse and your multiplanar workouts make a lot of sense to me. I am 50, considered morbidly obese, and have made this year my year to change all that. I find the workouts to be VERY challenging, but I just keep trying to make sure I have my form right. (Can I tell you, push ups, even from the knees suck!) I was sorry I wasn’t able to see the videos on this post. I am going to try and come back to it this afternoon.

Thanks for all you do.
Teresa

Marianne

I’m still not seeing any videos either!

I’d like to…

Any suggestions?
Marianne

Pamela

Thanks for the videos stressing good form. I jumped into the program with existing muscle imbalances and hurt myself, then backed off. I’ve been working with a therapist who uses Ortho Bionomy and doing Pilates in order to be able to get back to doing your program, and am ready to start again. I plan to take it slow and really make sure I have good form, so the videos are helpful. I’m not sure if this is the approach you’d suggest, but at 68, I want to be as successful as I can be at staying functional and and strong as well as losing weight.

Are you surprised at the number of us older folks (just in these comments!)? I’m pleased that I’m not alone.

Thanks for all you are doing. Pamela

Rick

Dr K thank you for your videos. I’m 52 yo. I’ve have had rotator cuff surgery on my right shoulder, because of a bone spur on the end of the shoulder. I thought I was going to have the left side done also. But with the slow tempo exercise by FFF, and your information with muscle balancing exercises, videos, I don’t think I’ll need it. These videos are really helpful because as you can imagine push up are not my friend. However learning proper techniques will help. Lunges were not my favorite either, my style was more like an orangutan. Again proper technique is going to help a lot . I like Adams videos “maybe someday?” Thank you again for teaching me the correct form.

Dr K & Adam,
These videos are very informative. I make the same type for my campers. Adam your airborne squat is a great version on the 1 legged squat. I have used your pushup veriation in my workouts. They are killer

Kathy

Dr K
I really like these exercises in one place. Thank you so much for taking the time to explain each of these exercises. Thank you Adam. Your exercises are great too.
Kathy

Wayne

Dr. K and Adam,

Great video! The addition of the bottle sqaut, airborne squat and screw pushup are a real challenge. Love the variety and additional muscle involvement with the movements. Keep them coming!

Wendy

Hey Dr. K,

I thought I was doing a ‘good’ push-up, that is until your video was posted and boy was I wrong. After using the correct form, even from my knees, my pecs were sore!! I hadn’t been tucking my elbows in, b/c it was too hard….hmmm, guess that’s where the proper form works! Now I’ll work on this technique to progress to toes.

Thanks & cheers,
Wendy

Enriqueta

Hi!! Great stuff!!!! Thank you both for this info. I’d love to have these explanations with me at the gym. Is it possible to download the videos to an Ipod or to have the transcripts?
Thanks again!

Hannu

Thanks for both of You
This information you are given is so gooood.
There is nothing like this here in Finland, so I really really appreciate what you are doing.
Keep it coming…..

daniel

Good Stuff like always.
thanks,

our pleasure Daniel :-)

thanks for taking the time to comment.

You’re very welcome, Hannu.

That’s great feedback – that’s really the motivation to be online and help people just like you :-)

Hey Enriqueta,

Sure, you can download them from youtube by just double clicking the videos – I believe there’s an option there :-)

You’re welcome, Wendy!

It’s amazing how much harder an exercise gets after you fix your form… at least for awhile. Glad to hear you’re on the right track – keep up the great work and please keep us posted – pun intended ;-)

You’re welcome, Wayne.

If you love this, wait until you see what’s next… it only gets better from here :-)

You’re welcome Kathy.

We thought this would help…. often times, it’s understanding how to integrate a program that makes all the difference.

Hey Dave,

Glad to hear you’re doing great things with your bootcampers – nice work!

You’re very welcome – please stay in touch,

-k

Hey Rick,

You’re very welcome. I’ve gone through the RC thing too – no fun!

seems like form is fixing the pain issues – this is common – hopefully the bone spur isn’t as bad as you thought… as for progressing to Adam’s exercises, just work on the knees versions for now… no reason to wait, just a matter of logical progression… Adam & I will be happy to show you how you can work up to each one with our programs, FYI.

have a great day!

Hannu – Glad you like it. It’s a shame… you just missed a Circular Strength Training seminar in Norway given by my good friend Ryan Hurst. Hopefully there will be more in the future. We’re building a solid following there.

Hey Pamela,

Nope! Not surprised at all, just proud of you :-)

One of the biggest misconceptions out there is that older folks aren’t supposed to exercise as intensely. That’s actually exactly incorrect.

I had the pleasure of working for the #1 inpatient rehabilitation hospital for older adults in the US, and I can tell you with certainty that it’s the ‘older folks’ who need the intense exercise more than anyone… plus, it creates an even larger quality of life difference than it will for anyone else.

Keep up the great work – wishing you a speedy recovery!

-k

Wayne – Thanks! We’ve had a lot of fun teaming up for this series. I’m sure you’ll see more collaboration in the future.

weird, Marianne. Can you see youtube videos?

this may be a limitation based upon the country you’re in… not so sure why it’s happening to you….

Hey Teresa,

Thanks for sharing. I really care about you reaching your goal.

Keep in touch and let me know if you’ve had any more luck with the videos this PM.

have a great day,

Kareem

Hey Terese,

It’s so great for you to be able to reinforce this important message. …and really cool you’re teaching this to ice skaters – developing proper form, muscular balance, neural activation, and core control will be a surefire pathway to their success :-)

I appreciate you.

Wow Steve!

I’m blown away.

YOU are my inspiration.

keep up the great work and please stay in touch,

-k

Hey Damien,

Thanks for your thoughtful feedback. It’s great to hear how this is helping you, and you can count on us helping you more in the future.

Replaying the videos and re-watching them with practice will be the key to your success. I’m waiting to see your ‘after’ photos and experiential story to come…

keep us posted :-)

You’re welcome, Melchior.

We’ll definitely be hooking you up more in the future – it’s too much fun not to!

oh… and you’re going to love what you see tomorrow – stay tuned!

That’s great to see, Ray!

Keep up the great work and please keep me posted :-)

hehe… I love faster results too, Jorge!

Wait until you see what we’re going to offer you tomorrow – you’re in for a real treat!

You’re welcome, Rex.

Very glad to hear that you’ll be applying this info to help others as well. Keep up the great work!

Pamela – “Are you surprised at the number of us older folks (just in these comments!)?” -> NEVER. In fact I find that the older crowd is really coming on strong lately. And it’s great to see!

Hi Elvor,

Thank you for taking the time to give me some thoughtful feedback.

As for the video speed, this is probably your internet connection… or the country where you are living and a youtube policy. Sorry for the frustration.

Also, I appreciate you letting me know about your goals. That’s very helpful :-)

Damien – Thank you sir! 65 leaves you PLENTY of time to enjoy years of great fun in your training.

Steve – It’s amazing the difference that SMART training makes. I wish I’d known at the age of 18 what I know now… ;-)

Terese – With Dr K, you couldn’t ask to be in more capable hands for getting you back up and running. And I know what you’re saying about drilling in the basics with your athletes. I coached alpine skiing for years.

Martha

Hi Kareem!

I couldn’t get to the Perfect Technique + Skill Progression video. Would you be able to send the link again? I totally enjoyed all of the other videos on this page, awesome! I’m loving DEFL!! Seeing more and more results every day! Thanks and take care.

hey Martha,

You’re welcome :-)

I’m confused, though… those videos are on this page – what are you looking for exactly?

Claude

Adam
These videos I like a lot and make tem part of my program exercise
Keep the good work
cfg

Hi Dr K, from week 1 to week 8 you had pictures to down load from each exercise showing how it was done but from week 9 onwards I have not been able to download as they are not there ,I am a platinum member , so can you send me them all please, I am really enjoying the workout challenges and have benefitted greatly, although currently stopped as recovering from knee surgery, but wiill carry on once I recover, thanks Gary

Annie

Thanks Kareem & Adam

I love the demo’s for the perfect push-up & lunge. I have trouble keeping my balance on lunges do to having severe vertigo, but have learned to offset it by keeping my mobile foot slightly out to the side for better stability. And that seems to jive with what you are showing us.
I look foreward to trying the screw pushup…. just to see if I can actually do it or not!…. but I’m not certain that I will ever be able to master the airborne squat!! It looks pretty tough…. and I have a lot of body weight to support (260 lbs. approx.). Will give it a shot though & let you know! Hope I don’t break a leg :)

Be well,
AB
